Kappa Upsilon Chi-Pi Chapter

History

In the winter of 1993, four men of differing denominational backgrounds created the Alpha Chapter at Texas Tech University in response to the demand for a Christian brotherhood on campus. Tyler Beard, David Boncler, Ken Rowland, and Matt Welborn brought in their first pledge class of 13 that spring. The movement from a local fraternity to a national fraternity began in the fall of 1995 when 12 men established a Beta Chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi at Wayland Baptist University. From there, the Fraternity has steadily grown as the concept has been publicized. The fraternity now stretches across five states with ten chapters. As of now, approximately 1,000 men have been initiated into the fraternity with the number rising each year as new chapters are established and the existing chapters grow. The Greek letters of Kappa Upsilon Chi represent the organization’s primary name, “Keeping Under Christ” - which in itself is a philosophy on which this organization was founded and on which it thrives today.

Testimonies

Kappa Chi has been the biggest blessing God has given me. After searching and failing to find a very tight knit group of fellow Christian men, God made it clear that he wanted us to start something. We wanted to be something more than just another Bible study or accountability group. We wanted it to be a fellowship that doesn’t meet because it is the Christian thing to do, or to feel good about it, or to just study the Bible, but because it is necessary for survival in this world. We wanted to find men who have been fired upon, who have been through trials and suffering, but are stronger and walk closer to God because of it. In essence we were looking for brothers who desire to find companions, fellow soldiers who are on the battlefield serving and who are prepared to live and die for this cause of Christ....and we found those with the Alpha founding fathers and the Beta Class...

I hadn't decided if I was going to join KYX when I first started at USC but I can now say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I went through a lot of different changes in my life this semester and my brothers were there for me through every single one. Accountability and Bible Study stretched me every week, and I learned so much about myself and Jesus from some of the older brothers just through hanging out and spending time together. I would recommend joining KYX if you are looking for a serious brotherhood. The guys are gonna be there for you, but they are also going to challenge you and  push you to be your best for Christ.

One of the great things about KYX is diversity.  Brothers come from all walks of their spiritual journey.  It isn't your typical fraternity.  That word seems to scare some people, but we put the gospel of love first.  KYX is a medium through which the spirit put me back together.  To grow, Christian community is essential.  I don't know who I would be without my brothers.
