Frequently Asked Questions 1. What will I need to attend each week if I decide to pledge? Chapter meetings on Mondays from 8pm-10pm. Weekly pledge meeting TBA. For social events and service project dates, see the calendar. Weekly accountability group. 2. Do I have to attend all events? Member attendance is encouraged but not required. Pledges are required unless there is an emergency or scheduling conflict. 3. What is the policy with alcohol? All KYX events are alcohol-free. 4. What is a Chapter meeting? Chapter is a weekly meeting where we discuss upcoming events. We also do some worship and have a devotion. A pledge is a new brother interested in becoming a member that goes through a process called pledgeship. Pledgeship is a 9-week process of learning about fraternity history, chivalry, and the Bible as well as building deeper relationships with brothers. 6. Am I required to attend a KYX bible study? No. But it is required of all members to attend some sort of weekly Bible study. 7. What is accountability group? It is a time each week where small groups within KYX get together with a leader and talk about things each of us have been struggling with. It is a time to put "all your crap on the table" and really get to know each other deeply. We keep it confidential. 8. How intense is RUSH? It's an easy-going fun time to get to know each other. Totally not anything to worry about. Be your self and share your love of the gospel. The rest will fall into place. 9. Isn't KYX just like every other generic youth group? No. It's a tight-knit Christian brotherhood devoted to growing future leaders that is so much more than just another youth group. If you are ready to grow deeper in your faith, this can be a great way to do it. The spirit is at work in our brothers and we are all pushing each other towards the same desire, furthering the light on campus and the world. 10. What are the benefits of being in a Fraternity? Lifelong friends. Networking. Leadership Development. Growth. The list goes on. 11. Being in a fraternity means paying for your friends, right? False. We have $365* in dues to pay each semester because we need the money to fund social events, service projects, and retreats. Without dues, there would be no way to fund the fraternity other than small donations. (*$315 for actives) No. Brothers respect pledges just as much as we expect pledges to respect us. On top of that, USC has a strict no-hazing policy. So no worries about that. For further questions, e-mail Tim Olson ivp@usckyx.org |
